A complete eye diagnostics includes not only measuring numerous eye parameters on machines, but also studying documentation, performing specific tests on each eye and both eyes together, examining eye structures through a microscope, under high magnification.
In the visual acuity test, you will be asked to read letters on various tables at close and distant distances to determine the lens power needed to compensate for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It will take patience and cooperation with an optometrist (eyeglass fitting specialist). Drops that dilate the pupil help eliminate the effect of the intraocular muscle on the eye’s optical power readings and allow for detailed examination of the eye fundus.
Regular eye exams are necessary
Regular eye exams are necessary so that you can maintain your eye health and good vision. In addition, eye exams allow you to find out more information about your health than you expect. In some cases, the eye doctor can draw conclusions about your overall health. Your eyes will tell your doctor more about the condition of your veins and arteries than any other organ. The ophthalmologist can also detect early symptoms of diseases that can worsen your vision over time. For this reason, regular eye exams are very important, even if you are not experiencing any vision problems. You should have an eye exam at least once a year, even if you have excellent vision.

A number of tests are performed to check the eyes:
VISOMETRY
Determination of visual acuity in the distance by means of tables with letters, numbers or other signs.
TONOMETRY
Measurement of intraocular pressure. Increased intraocular pressure is the main sign of glaucoma.
REFRACTOMETRY
Determination of the optical power of the eye with an autorefractometer (diagnosis of refractive error: nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism). Some people call this a computerized eyeglass fitting.
BIOMETRY
Measurement of anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, vitreous body dimensions, and the size of the eye as a whole. Non-contact, in just a few seconds, performed with a latest generation optical instrument. Allows high precision calculation of the required artificial lens.
PACHYMETRY
This is a measurement of the thickness of the cornea through ultrasound or light scanning. It is necessary for both pre- and post-refractive examinations.
KERATOTOPOGRAPHY
A study of the curvature of the cornea by recording the test objects reflected by it. This examination allows us to determine the shape of the cornea and the presence of corneal problems.
PERIMETRY
Determining the boundary of the visual field. The visual field is the part of the surrounding space that the eye is able to see with the head and gaze completely still. An important method of diagnosing eye diseases such as glaucoma, partial optic atrophy, retinal detachment, etc.
BIOMICROSCOPY
A method of examining the anterior segment of the eye with a slit lamp (special microscope). During biomicroscopy, the ophthalmologist looks at the conjunctiva, cornea, iris, crystalline lens, and vitreous body with high magnification.
FUNDUS-LENS EXAMINATION
Examination of the fundus oculi with a fundus lens (examination of the retina and its vessels). One of the most common and important methods in the diagnosis of eye diseases. With good skills of the doctor and good quality local anesthesia it causes almost no discomfort.
LENSMETRY
An optical analysis of the glasses you are wearing.
Results of the examination
At the end of the examination, the eye doctor will give you a detailed assessment of your eye and vision health, inform you of the risks you may be exposed to, advise on available methods of prevention and, if necessary, prescribe treatment. Discussing your upcoming surgery is an important part of the discussion. Any questions you have should be discussed before the surgery!
