Andrii Zhuk is an ophthalmic surgeon with over 15 years of experience. He regularly participates in live surgeries, demonstrating complex cases at specialized congresses and at the Department of Ophthalmology of the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets, where he is also a research associate.
Ph.D. in Medical Science:
In 2024, he defended his Ph.D. thesis (N24 №001189) on the pathology of the retina combined with cataracts. His research focused on the visual function modeling for retinal detachment after combined vitreoretinal surgical treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, considering microstructural changes in the retina and chorioretinal blood flow.

Innovation in Surgery:
In 2019, he was among the first in Ukraine to introduce 3D surgery on a permanent basis at the British Ophthalmological Center.

- Retinal pathology: retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, diabetic complications of the retina, vitreous body diseases, age-related macular degeneration.
- Lens pathology: lens injuries, cataract removal with the implantation of premium intraocular lenses, and astigmatism correction.
- Refractive surgery: surgeries correcting astigmatism, allowing patients to eliminate the need for glasses.
- Post-traumatic and reconstructive eye surgeries.

- In 2000, Andrii Zhuk completed his studies at the Kyiv Medical Lyceum and enrolled in the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets.
- From 2003 to 2006, he was part of the ophthalmology student circle at the Department of Ophthalmology and at the Eye Trauma Center of Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital in Kyiv.
- In 2006, he graduated from the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets with a degree in General Medicine.
- From 2006 to 2008, he completed his internship and specialized in ophthalmology at the Department of Eye Diseases of the same university, and at the “Center for Eye Microsurgery” in Kyiv, where he focused on retinal pathology.
Professional Experience:
- From 2008 to 2016, he worked as an ophthalmic surgeon in the retinal pathology department (vitreoretinal department) at the “Center for Eye Microsurgery” in Kyiv.
- From 2016 to 2018, he worked in private healthcare facilities under contract.
- Since 2018, he has been an ophthalmologist and Head of the Surgical Department at the British Ophthalmological Center.
- Since 2020, he has been the Chief Physician at the British Ophthalmological Center.
- Since 2020, he has also worked as an assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets.
Scientific and Practical Focus:
He focuses on modern methods of microsurgical treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, and inflammatory and degenerative retinal diseases, as well as traumatic injuries of an eye.
He has introduced cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment methods for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, retinal diseases, and diabetic eye complications.
Public and Volunteer Activities:
In collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, he contributed to the development of an innovative program for providing ophthalmological services to the population.
Military Time Efforts (2022 Onward):
From the first day of the full-scale invasion to Ukraine, he organized the British Ophthalmological Center to operate as a military hospital, providing continuous 24/7 care.
He led a team of doctors providing urgent, high-specialization surgical care to patients injured during the war.
He is also involved in the selection of young ophthalmologists for training in advanced surgical techniques.
