For most ophthalmic procedures, local anesthesia (drops/injection) is sufficient — it’s comfortable, controlled, and safe. If the patient is anxious or the surgery takes longer, sedation is used: you stay relaxed, calm, and remember little about the procedure while breathing and heartbeat are monitored by the anesthesiologist. General anesthesia is applied when medically indicated or upon patient request during complex surgeries. Our anesthesiologist will explain the pros and cons and help choose the best option for your health.

On the day of surgery, we recheck the anesthesia plan, explain sensations during and after the procedure (mild pressure, flashes of light — all normal), and give clear recovery recommendations: routine, eye drops, and activity restrictions.
